WIP bio

Name: Doctor Fenwick

Canon: Original

Age: 41

Synopsis

This is a world where the moon is a massive eye that opens once a month. Where the moon looks unleashes chaos that defies reality, causing changes that last even after the eye closes, these are called Moon Gazes.

Born in a fortress city known colloquially as Sardine Tin City due to its oppressively cramped conditions, Fenwick grew up feeling repressed and compressed. The city was an impenetrable fortress, but keeping it that way also made expansion impossible.

Leaving the city for his education at 18, he felt a powerful sense of freedom and desired to make a world where such defences were unnecessary.

Fenwick was already a genius scientist when, in his early 20s, he gained technological powers that made his scientific dreams come true. He devoted his life to protecting humanity from the effects of Moon Gazes and in the course of his career he became a well-known global figure, associated with the Defence Force.

Personality

πŸ”₯ Passionate
πŸ›‘οΈ Brave
βš–οΈ Justice-motivated
πŸ“£ Opinionated
🌊 Emotional
😀 Prideful
😠 Petty

Doctor Fenwick is genuinely excited to exist, is excited you exist, and excited the world exists. He has a sort of whimsical joy that infuses just about everything he does. He feels strongly and often, with a passion for everything he does. He wears his heart on his sleeve and gives everything his all.

This contributes to his powerful sense of justice. When people do wrong, he takes it personally and wants to balance the scales immediately. His anger is long-lived and often pays off elaborately.

He is also, inconveniently, extremely prideful. This rarely appears as looking down on others, but he usually has a sense that he knows best and slights linger in his head for a long time.

Fenwick genuinely likes people. Not in the abstract, but in the specific, and usually finds something to like about everyone. He believes humanity is worth protecting even when it is loud, shortsighted, and self-sabotaging, and he wants to make a real improvement to the world around him.

Appearance

Fenwick is very tall and lanky, all long limbs and sharp angles, with long blonde hair he keeps in a messy bun. He has the classic shiny scientist glasses and is usually in a lab coat.

He usually has an open and warm expression.

His most striking feature is his eyes. As a side effect of his Moonlit ability, they present as LCD screens rather than organic eyes. They usually display eyes, but often update to give away his inner thoughts and if he tries hard they can purposefully show what he wishes.

His voice carries a distinct Scottish accent and it tends to sharpen further when he is irritated or excited. (I ain't gonna write it out tho aside from the occasional β€˜och’ tho)

Abilities

Fenwick was altered by the reality-bending events of a Moon Gaze. His power is the ability to interface with and influence technology. Fenwick's body now includes several mechanical components, most importantly gears in his head that audibly turn when he thinks hard or uses his powers. This has a few caveats-

For Fenwick to use his powers, he must personally consider the object to be technology. For example, he considers something as simple as a lever to count, but only if made by human hands. So picking up a stick wouldn't work, but carving one from a bigger stick would.

The more complicated the technology is, and the more components it is made from, the easier it is for Fenwick to manipulate. For example, it's a breeze for him to make a supercomputer do exactly as he pleases, from its intended purpose, to causing it to reconfigure into a piece of armour. Conversely, while an anvil fits his definition of technology, the best he could do is use it as a projectile and that would cause him great strain.

When Fenwick gives something a directive, it takes up a percentage of his given internal processing power and will continue to operate until it is destroyed, gets a new order or completes its goal. Restructuring requires him to be in the tech's presence.

Like all Moonlit, Fenwick's powers are restricted by his subconscious, as to truly comprehend his reality-altered self would cause him to lose his understanding of the reality of everyone else. He can enter a state called Limitless, in which these restrictions lift temporarily. These states are not voluntary.
Once Limitless passes, the overall upper ceiling of the power is usually increased or its applications broadened. Fenwick's has two Limitless states- "Turing's Enigma" (induced by overwhelming emotion) and "Mr. Roboto" (induced by intense psychological shock). In both, his processing power is infinite but both has a specific power. It is possible for him to be in both states at once, but it's very rare.

In Turing's Enigma, his technological powers grant machines their own minds and are anthropomorphised, wanting to complete their purpose and not needing direct orders. The effects of Turing's Enigma are infectious between machines so long as he remains in the state.

During Mr. Roboto, Fenwick's body becomes fully mechanical and he can make machines directly from his own body. He can incorporate materials into his body.

The after effects of using these states multiple times have added machine parts to his body, such as his LCD eyes, head gears and his left arm is hydraulic under his flesh.

Fenwick possesses a comic book scientist style super genius, which is not limited to mechanical engineering. His powers assist him to making his theories reality, and some of his machines can only be created through them. Through his research, he has made great strides in the fields of cybernetics, robotics, energy science and medical treatment. He is one of the few to ever be able to technologically replicate Moonlit powers, but they cannot be mass-produced and can only be created when he is in Limitless.

Fenwick is no stranger to combat, and makes use of multiple robots and a powered suit. Due to his importance as a scientist, he is generally discouraged from direct combat and remote controls his robots. However, when his power is required directly he isn't shy about entering the fray.

Notes

Most people only have one name in his world. Having more than one is reserved for nobility. Those with one name, when necessary, give their name as "Name, of Place" and narrow it down as needed.

Fenwick always insists on being called Doctor Fenwick, never just Fenwick.
